Your Network Adapter should now be listed in the Network control panel window. It is recommended that you remove:

This error is normal. Click on the No button to dismiss the message. You will continue to receive this error message at startup until you register your Ethernet card and plug your computer into a Ethernet network jack.

Determining your Ethernet Address

Every Ethernet card has a unique number assigned when it is manufactured. This number is referred to as an Ethernet address or hardware address. Listed below are several examples of valid Ethernet addresses:

    08 00 07 80 ec 03
    08000780ec03
    00-00-c0-b4-2a-23
    0-0-c0-b4-2a-23
    0:20:af:b:f6:76
    00:20:AF:0B:F6:76

If your computer does not have an Ethernet card installed, you must first install the card before you can determine its address. Refer to your Ethernet card's installation instructions before proceeding.

  • In order to determine the Ethernet address for your Ethernet card: To determine your Ethernet address, from the Start menu select Run . A window will appear which prompts you to enter a command.
  • Type winipcfg and click on the OK button. A dialog box as shown below will appear with your computer's Ethernet address in the Adapter Address field. Write this number down.
Note: The following is not a valid Ethernet address:
    44-45-53-54-00-00
If this is the only Ethernet address listed, your Ethernet card may not be installed properly. Try re-installing your Ethernet card, or contact your Ethernet card's manufacturer for assistance.
